Thomas Edison gave root to the mantra "there is no substitute for hard work". Archbishop Mitty shooting guard Connor Peterson has taken that belief to heart this summer. In the last month, the 6-foot-2 rising senior has attended the University of San Diego, Santa Clara University and most recently the Cal Poly Mustangs' Basketball Camp. While San Diego is a slight favorite as of now, Peterson will need a strong summer performance to secure a coveted Division I scholarship.
After an incredibly successful season where the Monarchs finished just short of a state championship, falling to fellow state basketball powerhouse Mater Dei, Peterson will need to improve his skills and lead a team that has since lost state Player of the Year Aaron Gordon to graduation.

One way he is looking to add to his play-making ability has been his performance with the highly competitive Oakland Soldiers on the summer circuit. Peterson wants to improve his shooting repertoire and "pull up jumper coming off screens".
Fortunately for Connor, his brother Trevor plays at Division II Point Loma Nazarene University and has been a great mentor to his younger brother in traversing the college basketball landscape. Connor also is looking towards staying on the west coast with a program that demonstrates an up-tempo playing style.
With the loss of star players Brandon Farrell and Gordon, the Second Team All-WCAL performer will need to take over the reins and under the tutelage of Coach Tim Kennedy, the Monarchs should be right in the thick of the WCAL championship hunt come next season.
