Green lands at Cal

Spending the summer in the Canary Islands, Lithuania and Indonesia, St. Mary's-Berkeley guard Gabby Green is ready to stay home for college basketball. She committed to Cal last month in a major pickup for head coach Lindsey Gottlieb.
The 6-foot-1 Green chose Cal over a final list of Rutgers, Ohio State and Tennessee. She has previously taken an official visit to Rutgers and visited Cal the weekend before leaving for Indonesia for USA Basketball U18 3x3 World Championship.

"I took my official visit the week before I left to go to Indonesia. I just kind of knew once I got on campus, I pretty much fell in love with Cal," Green said.
Green's commitment to Cal, which made a run to the Final Four last season, comes on the heels of two gold medals with USA Basketball in the U18 3x3 World Championship and the U19 World Championship.
"This summer has been one of the best summers of my life," Green said. "Playing with USA after being turned down twice was a big honor."
A big guard who handles it well, Green can get to the basket and compliments it with a developed mid-range jumper. She can have a big defensive impact with versatility to play both guard spots depending on the circumstances. She is a major commit for Cal as it continues to load up on local talent. Green is just the second top prospect in the last five years to stay on the West Coast.
Green is entering her fourth year on varsity at St. Mary's-Berkeley, which includes a trip to the state title game in 2011, the NorCal championship game in 2012 and reaching the Open Division semi-finals in 2013. As a junior, she averaged 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals per game in being named the NorCalPreps.com Division IV Player of the Year.
She will team with Mikayla Cowling (Cal) and Taylor Berry (Santa Clara) to form one of the top team in the region and state. Much like her future college team did in 2013, don't be surprised if the Panthers are making noise deep into March.
