SJS Girls D3: Vista beat Manteca 68-49

In the first quarter you could tell the nerves were there but after a few trips down the floor the games began. Vista’s defense seemed to give Manteca some trouble but behind great shooting from Brea Vieira who was 3-for-3 for the half from the 3pt line and some tough drives from Jada Ikharo. Manteca was able to withstand the initial run from Vista ending the first quarter tied at 12-12.

Vista’s offense came alive behind junior Ella Skrzyniarz who seemed to be everywhere on the floor defensively and offensively. She led all scorers at halftime with 10 points. Kelsey Brooks and Callie Jacobosky also chipped in with eight points at the end of the half to give Vista a 34-24 lead.

Vista came out in the 3rd quarter working as a team, sharing the ball well and defended at a high level to go on a 13-2 run with another 3 pointer by Skrzyniarz to push the lead to 19 en route to a 51-31 lead after the third quarter.

Jada Ikharo started the 4th quarter scoring five straight points to try to bring life into the Manteca squad and with a great steal from Kalaja Reese and a big 3 by Michailla Springs. However, with some great bench play from Jacobosky, who was the second highest scorer with 16 points and Skrzyniarz leading the way in scoring and rebounding to finish with 24 points and 9 rebounds.

SJS D3 Girls: Sacramento beat Christian Brothers 72-49

The game started out extremely fast and physical with these two teams being familiar with each other in their third meeting of the season. Christian Brothers’ Shawn Underwood Jr made his presence felt early scoring eight points for Christian Brothers but with some outstanding play from Sacramento’s Shobal Barksdale knocking down shots and blocking multiple attempts to help the Dragons get out to a 16-15 lead after the first quarter.

The second quarter was more of the same with Sac High holding off Falcons’ runs with key buckets from Cornell football commit Kendahl Hearne and Barksdale continuing to control the paint. The Dragons led 33-25 at the half.

The Dragons didn't let up the defense and started getting out on the break and moved the lead to 18 points after the break. With Hearne and Sir Marius Jones with back to back dunks and Wallace also chipping in with 16 points for the night. The Dragons cruised to a 23 point win.

SJS D2 Girls: Whitney beat Vanden 64-53

Vanden started the game with their full court pressure but the size of Whitney was giving them trouble early in the first quarter en route to a 24-14 lead.

The resilience and great ball movement from Vanden kept them in the game with some outstanding shooting from Calonni Holloway, Taytum Jayla’Kai Johnson and Jaylen Kkuenel cutting into the lead and going into the half down 5.

In the second half the game pace picked up even more and went back and forth with more great buckets from Stanford commit Harper Peterson from Whitney and Holloway from Vanden. Whitney held onto the lead by going to their advantage which was their size. The 4th quarter was much more of the same as Whitney continued to look inside and pound the ball into Tylie Kitchen and Peterson for their second straight Division II title.

SJS D2 Boys: Vanden beat Del Oro 64-52

Vanden head coach Mike Holloway couldn't have had his team more fired up for this game. Understanding the moment from being in this position before, they came out controlling the game 21-4 lead by Tyler Thompson who couldn't miss early. Huff also had a fast start contributing 6 points and 6 rebounds.

Del Oro woke up and started to knock down shots themselves behind Caden Pinnick who had 7 points in the first half and helped cut the lead to 10 at halftime 33-23.

Vanden refused to let Del Oro go on a run by having an answer each time they scored. If it isn't Huff scoring or grabbing a huge rebound or Perkins getting to the basket with an acrobatic finish. They wouldn't be defeated tonight.

Pinnick started the fourth quarter looking to be more aggressive attacking the rim and giving his team some momentum but the fast and precise play of Vanden was able to lead from the beginning for their 3rd section championship in four years for Vanden.

SJS D1 Girls: St Mary's beat Folsom 57-51

With these two powerhouses matching up we knew it would be a great game. Defense was definitely an emphasis from both coaches with each team not backing down and St. Mary’s only giving up 19 points at the half.

Freshman Kori Rogers for St Mary's began to catch fire knocking down 3 3's and giving her squad an 11 point lead. The Bulldogs wouldn't lay down and had no quit in them, cutting into the lead with some stellar defense and Uriarte knocking down a few shots going into the half down 24-19.

The 3rd quarter was up and down with St. Mary’s getting their biggest lead of the night of 12. The scoring from McDonald's All American and Texas commit Jordan Lee and freshman sensation Rogers continued to hold the Bulldogs off, added with some exceptional defense from Nyah Buntun.

Uriarte did all she could knocking down 5 of 6 3 pointers and cutting the deficit to four with 52 seconds left but the duo of Lee and Rogers helped St. Mary's lead from the start.

SJS D1 Boys: Modesto Christian beat Lincoln 68-63

With these two teams coming from the same league and being real familiar with each other we knew the emotions and game play will be high. Junior guard Anthony Moore started off the game with a few buckets to set the tone that he is ready for the moment. Lincoln guard Donez Lindsey also contributed with a few baskets giving Lincoln the lead after one 15-14

Modesto Christian junior Gavin Sykes started attacking the basket and showing his mid range game which brought them back. Myles Jones also got into the mix knocking down some big buckets and giving the Crusaders a 32-29 halftime lead.

Marcus Washington was huge for the Crusaders and started to put his will on the game rebounding and finishing around the rim with high accuracy and helped Modesto Christian maintain a 46-42 lead after three quarters.

Anthony Moore started the 4th quarter the way he started the game with very skilled plays and knocking them down. Sykes and Washington again stopped the run and the game went back and forth down the stretch with both teams hitting big shots. But no basket was bigger than the put back by Washington to seal the deal and give Modesto Christian a Division I three peat.
