Whenever the private school (St. Mary's-Stockton) plays a public school (Stagg), the anticipation is high. The Rams quashed that with a 23-4 run to turn a 10-8 deficit into a 31-14 lead. They led by as many as 33 points in a 74-42 win.

The Rams will play Folsom on Friday after the Bulldogs beat Jesuit 58-38.

St. Mary's shot 59 percent on two point field goals and had a 40 point advantage over Stagg. A very good passing squad, the Rams got close in looks in transition and the half court led by junior Tre Jenkins' 16 points. Also a standout football player, Jenkins attacked the basket, gave some extra ball handling and was a good rebounder in the first round win.

Sophomore Bryce Johnson had 11 points and freshman Jamar Marshall had nine points off the bench. The inside work negated a 2-for-18 outing beyond the arc.

Stagg, which had won five in a row, got off to a good start by getting quick offense following turnovers and getting to the line. However, this style couldn't be sustained with the Rams taking a 38-16 lead into the half.

Jahbar Beard had 11 of his 13 points in the second half for the Delta Kings. Idaho football signee Cutrell Haywood had 10 points.
