NorCal Notes: Area Code Standouts
Area Codes continue on it Long Beach
The Oakland A’s Area Code team has played in four games in Long Beach with a number of players receiving recognition. From the past three games (losses to the White Sox, Yankees and Nationals), the following players were named top performers by the event staff:
Griff McGarry RHP Menlo: 2 innings, 1 strikeout
Riley Lamb RHP Elk Grove: 3 innings, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts
Darren Baker INF Jesuit: 1-for-3, 2 steals; 2-for-3, 2 RBI, SB
Ryan Holgate OF Davis (2018): 1-for-1, double, RBI
Casa Grande’s Spencer Torkelson participated in the home run derby on Tuesday night.
Hollins goes the prep school route
2017 small forward Alfred Hollins has made it official that he is transferring out of Sacred Heart Cathedral and will enroll at Hillcrest Prep in Arizona. The team features the No. 1 player nationally in the class in DeAndre Ayton.
Hollins was ranked No. 6 in NorCal heading into July.
The news was made public through a tweet from the Hillcrest Prep account.
Sacred Heart Cathedral still returns 11 players from last year’s squad for first year head coach Sean MacKay.
North South tournament set for this weekend
The 14th annual North South basketball tournament will take place this week at Wilcox High School on August 12-14. The event was created to allow Asian athletes to showcase their basketball skills against other players throughout the state. Below are the rosters for the senior boys and girls teams:
