Milstead a young star

We don't write about many incoming freshmen, but Moreau Catholic's Damari Milstead has the makings of an elite guard. We caught up with the 2017 prospect heading into the July Live Period to talk about early recruiting interest and a national camp invite.
Standing at 5-foot-11 with good length, Milstead (just 13 years old) has early interest from Cal, Cal Poly, San Diego State and Loyola Marymount. He is playing with the Oakland Soldiers 15s this summer before playing in the CP3 Rising Stars National Camp for the Top 100 rising freshmen in the country.

"I get to the basket real well. I've got nice size for my position for my age and I'm a cool passer," Milstead said on his strengths. He wants to improve his jump shot.
Milstead plays with a good court presence, has a pass first attitude and goes to a floater when he gets into the paint. He is a solid on-ball defender and doesn't take many bad gambles in the open floor. He will join a Moreau Catholic squad which went 18-10 last year. Its top three scorers were freshmen, including Oakland Soldiers 17 EYBL prospect Oscar Frayer.
"I'm really excited. Last year, they started five freshmen and I really wanted to get on the court with them," Milstead said. "Now, I'm playing with them."
The 2017 point guard is coming off a good showing at the Cal team camp and will make stops in Southern California and Las Vegas later this month.
