Gauchos land Durr

Sacramento wing Chaya Durr was on the verge of taking the next step in her development heading into July. However, a torn ACL in Oregon ended her summer on a sour note. The 3-star prospect is on the road to recovery and heading to the Big West.
The 6-foot-0 Durr committed to UC Santa Barbara on September 1. Other schools on her final list were Utah, Weber State, Hawaii and San Diego.

"I went down there for the first time about a year ago. The coaches are really good. The campus was really nice. I just loved it" Durr said. She added former Sac High star and current Gaucho Jasmine Ware as a big influence in calling her, "a great leader for me." St. Mary's-Stockton 2013 point guard Onome Jemerigbe and Durr were teammates with Cal Sparks NorCal.
Durr will miss her senior season due to the knee injury, but is happy with her recovery process. She started walking on it two weeks after surgery and started physical therapy last week, she said.
"I thought my life was over. I didn't think I could play basketball again," Durr said of her initial reaction to the injury. "Maybe God was telling me I needed a break and this is a break. I can get myself stronger."
