Aragon is winning with physicality

Aragon is 6-0 after beating Terra Nova (31-21) last week. This week brings a trip to defending league champion Menlo-Atherton.

What is behind the success?

“I think the thing that stands out is we’ve gotten better every week,” Aragon head coach Steve Sell said. “If we went back and watched our Aptos game, I wouldn’t recognize this team.”

The Dons are relying on a physical brand of football, spearheaded by the work of offensive line and strength coach Michael Wu. The offensive line has played very well this year in front of a tough backfield, led by junior running backs Paul Lautaimi and Cameron Grant.

Undefeated records for Aragon and Half Moon Bay in addition to strong starts from Menlo-Atherton, Terra Nova and Burlingame and the Peninsula Athletic League - Bay Division one of the top leagues in Northern California.

“It is super competitive,” Sell said. “It is really exciting football.”

The status of the game, due to poor air quality from the fires in the Santa Rosa area, is to be determined. Outdoor events in the PAL have been postponed or cancelled for Thursday. A possible solution if the game needs to be moved would be Monday, October 16.
