Falcons out-duel Northgate
Joe Demers provided the pitching and Trevor Larnach provided the offense as College Park topped Northgate 2-1 on Thursday afternoon.
The win, College Park's second over Northgate this week, improved the Falcons to 9-2 and extended their winning streak to four.
Meanwhile, the Broncos are 11-3 and have dropped back-to-back contests.
College Park benefitted from strong performances up and down their line-up, but the pair of juniors - Demers and Larnach - were instrumental in the victory.
Demers pitched seven innings and allowed just one run on two hits while Larnach went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI's at the plate.
From the onset of the game, it was evident Demers had his best stuff. The right-hander was around the zone the entire game and consistently kept the ball low in the zone.
Demers lost control for a bit in the third, when Northgate scored its lone run, but after hitting a batter and surrendering a pair of singles, he was able to minimize the damage.
While Demers was shutting down the Northgate offense, Spencer Johnson was returning the favor. The Broncos right-hander threw six innings, struck out seven but gave up a pair of runs and was stuck with the loss.
Johnson had a fair share of success with the bulk of College Park's line-up, but couldn't figure out a way to retire Larnach who put together three really solid at-bats with a strong approach and quick swing.
In the first inning Larnach gave the Falcons an early lead with an RBI single up the middle. In the third Larnach drove in another run with a sacrifice fly. Then, for good measure he showed off his offensive prowess again in the sixth with a line-drive double into the right center-field gap.
