CaliforniaPreps Weekend Football Playoff Preview

The 2013 CIF State Regional Football Championship Bowl Games are set this weekend. The five game slate in the South is headlined by a Santa Clarita clash between Hart and Chaminade and a Cerritos College battle between St. John Bosco and Corona Centennial. Californiapreps.com will have full coverage for both of these games.

Preview of Five Regional Championship Bowl Games for the Weekend
  • OPEN DIVISION: Corona Centennial vs. St. John Bosco at Cerritos College on Saturday

Southern California's two best teams face off in the Open Division game. 12-2 Corona Centennial, champions of the Inland Division, have won 10 straight games since two mid-September losses. St. John Bosco has made their way through the Trinity League and Pac-5 Division unblemished with a 14-0 record. The Huskies are led by Cal commit
Tre Watson, who is the horse behind Matt Logan's fast paced Centennial offense. St. John Bosco is led by Josh Rosen and Jaleel Wadood. Rosen is the #2 ranked player by Rivals.com in 2015 and is the quarterback behind a Brave offense that averages nearly 48 points per game. Wadood, who committed to UCLA this week, leads the Braves in the secondary and at wide receiver. The key will be which defense can get stops and off the field.

    The Pick: St. John Bosco

  • DIVISION II: Chaminade vs. Hart at College of the Canyons on Saturday

Two teams peaking at the right time return to the same field of a September 6th overtime thriller, which Hart won 55-54. Chaminade(12-2), champion of the Western Division, has won 7 straight games as they avenged a loss to Serra with a 38-35 win in the last seconds last week. Miami bound Brad Kaaya looked sharp last week but the balance with Donovan Lee and a defense playing well are the reasons for their success. Hart (12-2), champion of the Northern Division, has won 4 straight games since losing back to back games including a loss to Valencia, which they avenged last week. The Indians have protected 4-star junior Brady White better and running back Connor Wingenroth has led the team on the ground. The key will be how Hart protects White against a much better Eagle defense.

    The Pick: Chaminade

  • DIVISION I: Bakersfield at Mission Hills on Friday

Bakersfield (11-2), the Division 1 champion of the CIF Central Section, makes the 210 mile trek to San Marcos to face a 12-1 Mission Hills team, which won the CIF San Diego Section Open Division against state ranked Oceanside. The Drillers are a tough team that has rushed for 4200+ yards and 64 touchdowns this season. Asuani Rufus leads that attack with 1568 yards and 28 tds. Connor Wynn quarterbacks a Mission Hills team that has a stout defense that averages just 12 points per game. Fred Warner and Ricky Liuchan, senior linebackers headed to BYU and Oregon State, along with promising junior defensive back Dechaun Holiday, who has a number of early offers lead a talented defense.

    The Pick: Mission Hills

  • DIVISION III: Nordhoff vs. Corona del Mar at Orange Coast College on Saturday

Nordhoff (13-1), champion of the Northwest Division, travels 120 miles from its Ojai campus to Orange County to face a 14-0 Corona Del Mar team that won the Southern Division. Nordhoff is led by the senior running back duo of Matt Woodcock and Tayler Livingston, who has rushed for nearly 2100 yards and 31 touchdowns. The Sea Kings are led by senior quarterback Luke Napolitano, who has thrown for 2415 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 11 rushing touchdowns. Junior Cole Martin has rushed for 1635 yards and 21 touchdowns.

    The Pick: Corona Del Mar

  • DIVISION IV: View Park vs. Bakersfield Christian at Bakersfield Centennial HS on Friday

The 13-0 undefeated champion of Division 3 of the LA City Section heads to Bakersfield to face an 11-2 Christian team that won Division IV of the CIF Central Section. View Park is led by UCLA senior linebacker commit Cameron Griffin, who has racked up an impressive stat line of 146 tackles, 4 sacks, 3 interceptions, along with 6 rushing and 5 receiving touchdowns. Griffin and Julian Smith lead a mostly run based Knights offense. Bakersfield Christian is led by junior quarterback Brandon Jones, a possible Division 1 player next year in his own right, with 3730 passing yards and 49 touchdowns including 7 rushing touchdowns.

    The Pick: View Park
