NCP Pick'em Week 6

Folsom hosting Oak Ridge and Mitty traveling to Valley Christian headline the week six schedule around Northern California. In other action, Deer Valley will try to stay undefeated and a pair of 5-0 squads meet up in the Pioneer Valley League.

Freedom (2-3) at #10 Deer Valley (5-0) 7:00 PM: There will be plenty of offensive playmakers on the field this Friday highlighted by Freedom running back Joe Mixon. He has 879 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns as the Falcons have won two in a row after a 0-3 start. Two of the Falcons' losses were against NCP Top 20 teams Granite Bay and Foothill-Pleasanton. Deer Valley is averaging more than 400 yards of total offense paced by quarterback Nsimba Webster, who has 12 rushing touchdowns and nine passing touchdowns. The Wolverines are coming off an 11 point win at Vacaville. Deer Valley wins 35-21

#16 Foothill-Pleasanton (6-0) at California (4-1) 7:00 PM: Both teams have started league play with good defensive efforts heading into an important league contest. Offensively, Foothill boasts junior quarterback Kyle Kearns along with skill guys Isaiah Langley and Jamirr Holland. California counters with the hard running style of Blake Bierwith. He rushed for 206 yards and four touchdowns against Amador Valley. Both teams can put points on the board, but expect a close lower scoring game on Friday. California wins 17-14

Inderkum (3-2) at Yuba City (5-0) 7:00 PM: Yuba City ended Inderkum's dominance in the Tri-County Athletic League in 2012 and the Honkers are off to a 5-0 start this year. Senior Omar Herrera is the leading rusher with 602 yards and nine touchdowns and the starting defense has been solid in blowout wins. Inderkum will have the speed advantage with a strong group of skill players around quarterback CJ Spencer. The Tigers have lost to Division I schools Pleasant Grove and Rocklin. Yuba City makes it two in a row this year. Yuba City wins 38-35

Los Banos (4-1) at Central Catholic (5-1) 7:00 PM: Central Catholic sidestepped Pacheco last week with a 24-21 win. In the victory, freshman Montell Bland carried the ball 33 times for 194 yards and a touchdown and Donovin Townsend completed 75 percent of his passes. Los Banos beat Escalon 20-3 in the season opener and its only loss was to Division II Manteca 42-7. The Tigers are 25-5 in the past 30 games and are the top challenger, along with Patterson, to the Raiders in Western Athletic Conference. Central Catholic wins 21-17

#15 Oak Ridge (5-0) at #2 Folsom (5-0) 7:15 PM Game of the Week: The Delta River League starts off with a big matchup as Folsom hosts Oak Ridge. The Bulldogs' offense continues to impress with junior Jake Browning running the show behind stellar play from the offensive line. For Oak Ridge, it has balanced production in beating teams like Vacaville, Grant and Rocklin. The health of quarterback Ian Book will play a major factor especially if the Trojans can keep Jacob Sipes at wide receiver. Folsom remains one of the elite teams in NorCal, but Oak Ridge should give a good challenge. Folsom wins 42-28

Paradise (3-2) at Enterprise (5-0) 7:30 PM: Isaiah Matthews rushed for a school record 371 yards and four touchdowns in the Hornets' 56-48 win over Chico to open up the Eastern Athletic League. Enterprise has scored at least 23 points in each game this year and at least 40 in the last three contests. They will have to contend with the ground game of Paradise led by Matt Machado with 696 yards and five touchdowns. Jonathan Dixon has missed the last two games after averaging more than 100 yards per game. The Bobcats have played the tougher schedule, but appear a notch below Enterprise. Enterprise wins 28-21

Colfax (5-0) at Bear River (5-0) 7:30 PM: Colfax quarterback Michael Wilson is off to a terrific start with 1,445 yards and 22 touchdowns with four interceptions. Sophomore Beau Baggett has a team high 42 tackles while the Falcons have six interceptions as a team. They will put their perfect mark on the line at Bear River, which is coming off an exciting win over Eureka. Bear River is averaging more than 350 total yards with Brad Botsford accounting for 12 rushing touchdowns. These two programs are the favorites in the Pioneer Valley League heading into the openers and Colfax gets an important road win. Colfax wins 31-28

Manteca (4-1) at Oakdale (3-2) 7:30 PM: Is Manteca ready to take over control of the Valley Oak League? The Buffaloes' only loss was to Wilcox of the Central Coast Section and is led by a pair of runners in Alex Laurel and Michael Gonzalez. They have lost two straight games to Oakdale, including a 49-14 loss in 2011 at The Corral. The Mustangs have won three in a row and have a pair of one point losses to Turlock and Enterprise. Oakdale has won 15 straight games in the Valley Oak League. Does it improve to 16? Oakdale wins 24-21

#20 Mitty (4-0) at #19 Valley Christian-San Jose (3-1) 7:30 PM: The West Catholic Athletic League provides a Top 20 matchup. Mitty is off to a fast start on offense with quarterback Trent Scharrenberg and a big running threat in junior Dakari Monroe. The Monarchs haven't given up more than 14 points in any game this year. At Valley Christian, it is all on the running game and it is a good one. Kirk Johnson and Mark Quinby form a potent one-two punch and the defense pitched a shutout in the league opener against Sacred Heart Cathedral. This will be a one possession game all night. Mitty wins 35-28

Wilcox (3-1) at Palo Alto (2-2) 7:30 PM: Wilcox lost its first game of the season against Milpitas 27-20. The Chargers don't have much time to regroup with a trip to Palo Alto and quarterback Keller Chryst. The Vikings are off to a slow start at 2-2, including a 23-20 loss to Palma to end the non-league. Run defense has been a weakness for Palo Alto in losses to Palma and Mitty and will be tested against a good ground game of Wilcox. Look for the Vikings to move over .500. Palo Alto wins 28-17
