NCP Bowl Rankings
No. 2 Folsom, No. 3 Pleasant Grove and No. 5 Elk Grove were off last week as they gear up for league play this week. Folsom has the toughest opener against Oak Ridge, which is ranked No. 15 in the overall poll. Folsom and Pleasant Grove remain the favorites in the Delta River League while Elk Grove will try to recapture the Delta Valley Conference. All three programs will play major factors in the section playoffs.
Deer Valley has jumped St. Mary's-Stockton after the Wolverines beat Vacaville (No. 18 overall) 45-34. They will try to stay undefeated at home against Freedom, which boasts 5-star running back Joe Mixon.
Plenty of storylines come out of this division led by former No. 3 Vista del Lago falling out of the rankings after losing to Liberty Ranch 20-14. Milpitas moved into the Top 10 at No. 8 after it beat current No. 9 Wilcox 27-20 to open up De Anza league play. Milpitas' only loss is to No. 19 overall Valley Christian-San Jose.
In the Northern Section, Isaiah Matthews rushed for a school record 371 yards with four touchdowns in Enterprise's 56-48 win over Chico. The Hornets, the defending Northern Section Division I champions, are 5-0 heading into this week's tilt with Paradise.
South of Redding, 5-0 Yuba City will host No. 4 Inderkum in a battle of the upper echelon in the Tri-County Athletic League. The Honkers won at Inderkum 49-42 en route to a 9-1 regular season. The Tigers have the speed advantage, but don't be surprised if the unranked Honkers get another win in this series.
Marin Catholic, Campolindo and El Cerrito are separating themselves as the top tier in Division III. All three posted easy league wins and should be a part of fun semi-final and finals in the North Coast Section Division III playoffs.
Ripon is the newest team in the rankings after improving to 6-0 with a 35-13 win over Modesto Christian. It is averaging more than 300 rushing yards per game led by Michael Ysit with 766 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Indians started 11-0 last year before losing in the second round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoffs. Are they poised for a longer run this season?
In week five, Central Catholic avoided a league upset in beating Pacheco 24-21 while McClymonds' furious second half comeback fell short in a 47-40 loss to Division III Menlo. The 2012 Division IV regional bowl participants are the top two teams in the division with Central Catholic winning an early season meeting 38-24.
The Raiders have a test this week against Division III No. 7 Los Banos, which has only lost to Division II ranked Manteca on September 13.
