Scouting Cal ATH commit John Porchivina

Cal received a pledge from a late-rising local star when Casa Grande's (Petaluma, CA) John Porchivina flipped his commitment from Fresno State to the Golden Bears following an official visit to Berkeley last weekend. Porchivina was offered by the staff a three weeks ago, and is being recruited as an athlete.

A two-way star for the Gauchos, Porchivina earned First Team All-NBL honors at running back and Second Team All-League recognition as a linebacker. On offense, he carried the ball 187 times for 1,681 yards and 20 touchdowns; just under 9 yards per carry. He added another 321 yards and five scores receiving. His defensive stats are almost just as staggering. He tallied 87 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 11 sacks and three interceptions. Behind Porchivina and quarterback JaJuan Lawson, Casa Grande rolled to an undefeated NBL season and a 13-1 record overall.
