April 3, 2009 So what are you doing this weekend? Well, if you consider yourself a fan of Bay Area prep basketball and want to retain such a designation then there's but one way to prove it: get to the Drew Gooden Spring Tournament Extravaganza this weekend.Here are the details. This event hosts elite varsity, varsity and junior varsity squads and the headliners include these teams: The Berkeley, Lakeshow and Magic squads will be senior-oriented teams. There totals are 21 elite teams, 21 varsity squads and 12 junior varsity entries in the tournament. Yes, Damon Powell will be there as will Desmond Simmons, Jabari Brown and Jeremiah Kreisberg, the latter one of of fast-rising newcomers in the area. Additionally, Kyle Wiltjer out of Portland will be playing. As usual, a group of scouts and recruiting services analyst,s along with lower level college coaches, will be present rating and ranking players. NCAA regulations prevent D-1 coaches from attending. The venues are Salesian High, Albany High, El Cerrito High and Contra Costa College. The championship games will be played at the latter on Sunday. The entry fees for spectators are: $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, $3 for youngsters 6-17 and free for kids five and under. Once purchased, the daily pass allows attendees to see games at any of the venues throughout the day. Play begins Friday night at 6:30 PM and concludes Sunday evening.
