September 18, 2013Wilcox post Joeseta Fatuesi has been a mainstay on the prep scene even before her high school career. Playing with JBS on the summer circuit, Fatuesi drew plenty of attention before deciding to commit to Utah while on her official visit.
Ranked No. 10 in the NCP Top 40, the 6-foot-3 Fatuesi chose Utah after narrowing her list to the Utes, Washington State and Hawaii.
"To me, it was a perfect fit," Fatuesi said. "There are a lot of Polynesian people and a lot of family support there."
She took her visit to Salt Lake City last weekend and was surprised at how well her visit went.
"It surprised me. I actually thought I wouldn't like it. The tour started off really well with the coaches," Fatuesi said. "I really liked the campus. Every day I had fun."
Utah went 23-14 last year and went 8-10 in the Pac-12. It has been a middle of the pack team in the league since joining two years ago. Landing Fatuesi is an important recruiting win for Utah, which has missed out on a couple of NorCal prospects so far in this cycle.
Fatuesi has always possessed imposing size to score down low and is a nice passer from the block and high post. Her biggest area of improvement was her outside shot, she said.
The 4-star post made a nice post-summer jump following a good summer with JBS, which also has St. Mary's-Stockton Charise Holloway (Arizona) and Monterey Trail's Jasmine Redmon (Hawaii) making Division I commitments.
