August 26, 2013Sacramento State has mined Northern California for talent in this year and added Salesian guard Taylor Crowder to the 2014 haul. We caught up with her to talk about her decision.
The 5-foot-8 Crowder chose Sacramento State earlier this month and joins fellow NorCal prospects Breanna Alford (Miramonte) and Ali Bettencourt (Oak Ridge) in the Hornets' 2014 class.
"It is really close to my family and the system they talked about is what I like to do. I really like the coaches," Crowder said. "The coaching staff is great."
Crowder has plenty of connections to Sacramento State and it helped sell her on the Hornets.
"I liked the campus a lot. The campus is really cool. I know a lot of people that are going there and they all said it was a really good school," Crowder said. "The only downside is that it is really hot," she joked.
Her speed and defense are selling points for Sacramento State, which went 19-12 last year. The Hornets have a strong pipeline of players from Cal Sparks NorCal and/or Sacramento High School with five current or future players in the program.
Crowder returns for Salesian, which are the back-to-back NorCal Division IV champions. She is one of three Division I prospects returning for the Pride with Mariya Moore (Louisville) and Zoe Correal (Colorado).
